The forum meeting will take place using Zoom video-conferencing software, unless agreed otherwise.
The topic of the morning symposium will be led by:
Dr. Lynda Dunlop - University of York - Chronicles of the future: how teacher education responded to the climate emergency
In this visualisation exercise, you are invited to look beyond barriers to imagine a future where teacher education has fulfilled its potential to play a vital role in accelerating and amplifying action on climate change. To build a better future, we first have to imagine it - and then work to create it. The aim of the workshop is to explore desirable futures and investigate how this can be achieved.
The visualisation has conceptual and methodological roots in the idea of the future as subjective (Ghosh, 2013) and utopia as method (Levitas, 2013). It is an adaptation of the Future Factory game (Sandbhor 2024) and synthesises evidence and methods from climate science (IPCC, 2023; Riahi et al., 2017) and educational and philosophical thought experiments (Gesturing towards decolonial futures, n.d.; Rawls, 1985).
All are welcome, as we round off our theme of sustainability and inclusion in this year's symposia through an active focused discussion together imagining what work teacher education will have achieved on climate emergency, led by Dr Lynda Dunlop from York.
The afternoon committee starts at 1:00 pm and will finish no later than 3:00 pm.
The agenda and background papers for the afternoon will be circulated by email, along with separate Zoom links for the morning/afternoon sessions.
Registration is now closed. Please contact us if you wish to attend.
