Teaching Commission 2026: support, agency and resources for the teaching profession

The CPD forum will meet at 1:00 - 3:00 pm.

Professor Caroline Daly will be joining us from UCL to discuss the Teaching Commission's report (please see attached).

The Teaching Commission (2026) investigated how the teaching profession can be engaged in developing and implementing the current curriculum, assessment and SEND policy reform agenda. The report Curriculum and Assessment for all? analyses the resources needed to ensure the reformed curriculum is taught by teachers who are suitably prepared and qualified to fulfil the goals of the Curriculum and Assessment Review (2025) and the schools white paper Every child achieving and thriving (2026).

This talk will explore the Commission’s recommendations, which focus on how teachers and leaders can be engaged in developing and implementing reform, so that professionalism and agency can be strengthened. This report builds on the previous investigation Shaping the Future of Teaching, to produce recommendations to shape a profession that people want to join and where teachers and leaders want to stay.

Caroline Daly is Professor of Teacher Education and Director of the Centre for Teachers and Teaching Research at UCL Institute of Education (IOE). She taught in secondary schools for ten years before joining the Secondary PGCE team at the IOE. She researches teacher professional learning, with a major interest in pre-application to teaching, programme design, Early Career Teachers, mentoring and school workplace support for new teachers. She currently leads the Leverhulme Trust project ‘Young People, Possible Teachers’ and is Commissioner to the Teaching Commission, investigating solutions to recruitment and retention challenges and sustaining an expert teacher workforce.

The agenda, papers and MS Teams link will be circulated in advance of the meeting.
