Promoting Quality in Teacher Education

Continuing Professional Development Forum

Chair: Lizana Oberholzer (University of Wolverhampton); Vice-Chair: David Littlefair (Northumbria University)

The CPD Forum discusses the full range of issues relating to the continuing professional development of teachers and other educators across all sectors of education, including the primary, secondary and post-compulsory phases. Discussions cover: latest CPD programme developments; relevant research findings in respect of CPD; and links between initial teacher education and early professional development. The forum is particularly interested in making progress towards teaching becoming a master's level profession and the role of the new Chartered College for Teaching. A key area of work over the coming year is likely to be the implications for CPD of government policies in relation to the 'strengthening' of QTS, as well as the development of apprenticeship programmes for serving teachers.

Lizana Oberholzer

Lizana Oberholzer is a senior lecturer in teacher education and programme lead for the University of Wolverhampton’s International MA in Education, as well as the Early Careers Framework and National Professional Qualifications for school leaders. She is passionate about teacher development and leadership development and is a member of the BELMAS Council. She supports the BELMAS Research Interest Group for governing and governance as a convenor. Lizana is a BAMEed Trustee, and supports WomenEd as a regional lead. She is actively involved in IPDA, and is currently the IPDA England Chair, as well as the Vice Chair of the IPDA International Committee. In addition, she Chairs the UCET CPD forum, as well as the APPG SIG for Teacher Development. She is a proud trustee of a Multi Academy Trust, and is a committed educator, striving to provide learners with learning opportunities and life-chances.
