Promoting Quality in Teacher Education

UCET Assembly

Chair: Dr Pinky Jain (Leeds Beckett University); Vice-Chair: TBC

The UCET Assembly (previously known as UCET Management Forum) is the main forum in which Heads of Schools and Departments of Education are able to meet to discuss matters of importance in relation to the provision of teacher education in the UK. It also takes up issues not likely to appear on the agendas of the other forums, such as staff development and also considers the management implications of the whole range of university work. Current discussions include workload and stress of academic staff, risk management and partnership.
From AY2026/2027, the Assembly will be meeting jointly with both the Primary and Secondary forums each term, with joint symposiums, business meetings and optional breakout space for each phase. There will also be a face-to-face meeting in the Spring term of each year.

More about Pinky

Dr Pinky Jain is Head of Teacher Education in the Carnegie School of Education at Leeds Beckett University. She has research interests in educating teachers with social justice at the core, exploring how teachers can be developed and supported to attain criticality, be reflective, and become research-informed practitioners. Pinky also leads CollectivED which is a research and practice centre for mentoring, coaching & professional learning in The Carnegie School of Education. The centre forms a community of professionals, academics and students with shared interests and aims to encourage and enable collaborative conversations which create powerful professional learning. Pinky also carries out research on mathematical pedagogies and the value of talk to support reasoning and develop a love for mathematics amongst reluctant mathematicians.

Throughout her career, Pinky has taught globally in a range of primary schools and HEIs before joining Leeds Beckett University in 2021 where she leads an enthusiastic, dedicated and committed team focused on teacher education.
