Letter from Sean Hardford to JNR:

30 March 2020

30th March 2020

Dear Mr Noble-Rogers

UCET response to the ITE inspection framework consultation

Thank you for your letter of 17 March 2020 to Her Majesty’s Chief Inspector,
Amanda Spielman, in which you contribute UCET’s response to the ITE inspection
framework consultation. I have been asked to respond in my capacity as National
Director, Education.

In preparing to publish a new ITE inspection framework, the consultation process is
essential if we want to make sure the views of the sector are heard. Please thank
your members for the time they have devoted to considering the proposed
framework. Thank you, also, and please thank any others who collated the
responses.

Your response is, as you say, ‘balanced and fair’. It identifies a number of positive
areas of the proposed consultation. Equally, you have identified some potentially
negative aspects of the proposed new framework that we will consider when
finalising.

I appreciate you taking the time to go through the wording of the combined
framework and handbook and highlighting areas where, perhaps, there could be
more clarity. Your comments are very helpful.

Let me reassure you that the next stage of the process is to reflect on all the
consultation responses to ensure that the final framework and handbook is fit-fo rpurpose
across the whole sector.

On another note, I wish that you, and your members, stay safe and healthy during
these very difficult times.

Yours sincerely,

Sean Harford HMI
National Director, Education
