  • Registration for the 5-6 November 2019 UCET Annual Conference in Stratford-upon-Avon is now open, with a special 10% early bird discount for those who register before 30 April, and a further 10% discount for institutions sending five delegates or more. The programme for the conference is still being finalised, but keynote speakers will include Mary Bousted from the National Education Union, Moyra Boland from the University of Glasgow, and Trevor Mutton from the University of Oxford. There will also be sessions on the new Early Career Framework, ITE content, early years teacher education and much more besides.   • University College London – Institute of Education: Chief External Examiner – Secondary PGCE, required for the current academic session for an appointment of four years. The chief external examiner can be of any subject background. The purpose of the role is to give a whole programme overview by working with a team of subject external examiners for this high profile Secondary PGCE programme of 18 subjects.   • University of Chichester:
  • Foundation Degree in Teaching and Learning Support (FdATLS). Starting September 2019
    • The Foundation Degree is located on the Bognor Regis Campus and is a three year, part-time course for teaching assistants, taught on one day per week (Wednesdays or Fridays). We also offer the opportunity for Level 6 progression to a range of degrees and to QTS.
    • On the FdATLS Programme we are seeking to appoint an External Examiner with responsibility for the Bognor based route and the route delivered through our collaborative partnership with Havant South Downs College.
    • The Examiner would be expected to meet with the students, examine Level 5 assignments and attend an Exam Board in early July.

UCET Forums 

The UCET School Reference Group met this week. Items on the agenda included: a roundtable discussion of the DfE’s recruitment and retention strategy including the Early Career Framework; feedback on current levels of ITE applications; retention to programmes in 2018/19; an update on apprenticeships and discussion of the Teacher Workload Companion by UCET.
