1. Teaching Vacancies – supporting trainee teachers in their job search

The service has been designed to help trainee teachers like your find their first job more easily:

· Setting up a job alert means you will be the first to know of when jobs go live.

· Creating a candidate profile lets schools know you are interested in a job in the local area.

· The quick apply application form means you don’t have to fill out multiple applications.

85% of schools use this service to list their vacancies and it should be the first place you should always check when looking for your new classroom.

Please visit https://teaching-vacancies.campaign.gov.uk/ to check out top tips and register

2. Action for providers: International relocation payment (IRP)

When you submit your trainee data to Register, you will be asked to record any trainees you think may be eligible for the IRP. DfE will validate potentially eligible trainees, who will receive the money in the same way they receive a bursary.

You can check eligibility criteria and the actions you will need to take in the ITT bursaries funding manual.

Salaried trainees must apply for the IRP by 31 October 2023. Please share the guidance link with your eligible salaried trainees. DfE will verify eligibility and pay salaried trainees directly by the end of January.

3. International relocation payment (IRP) webinar for ITT providers

We will be holding an international relocation payment (IRP) webinar on Tuesday 24th October at 3pm, to explain the process by which trainees eligible for the IRP are identified, validated and paid.

We will cover:

· what actions providers need to take to identify potentially eligible trainees

· how DfE will verify and confirm these trainees

· how payment will be made using the bursary model

· details of the grant offer letter we will send to providers

The session will be recorded and made available to those who are unable to attend.

4. Candidates who have not met their conditions to start training in September 2023

Candidates with courses starting in September 2023, can start their training in some circumstances if they are still waiting for some conditions to be met.

These circumstances are:

Candidates who have not received all their references

Where possible, references should be received before a candidate starts training.

However, if no safeguarding issues have been raised during the application process, you can allow a candidate to start their training if you’ve not received any references yet or if 1 reference indicates the candidate is suitable to work with children.

Candidates who have not completed their subject knowledge enhancement (SKE) course

It’s fine for candidates to start their training if they have not completed their SKE course.

Candidates providing evidence of GCSE equivalent qualifications

If a candidate is taking a GCSE equivalency test for English, mathematics or science, they must provide evidence they have done the test before their training starts and provider their results later.

In all of these circumstances, training providers should not move a candidate to ‘recruited’ status in Manage teacher training applications (Manage) or student record systems. Instead, you should continue to update their conditions as they come in. Training providers that use Register trainee teachers (Register) should register these trainees manually in Register.

5. Changes to how candidates apply for teacher training in the 2023 to 2024 recruitment cycle

Candidates will be able to submit their applications for the next recruitment cycle from 10 October 2023 at 9am.

In the next recruitment cycle, we’re changing the way candidates apply for courses. These changes will be in Apply for teacher training (Apply).
Training providers will process applications in the same way in Manage teacher training applications (Manage) or your own student record systems.

The changes we’re making are:

· applications will not be rejected automatically after 40 working days

· candidates can apply to another course after 30 working days if they do not get a response on their current applications

· candidates will be able to apply to a different course as soon as they receive a rejection, or withdraw

· offers will not be declined automatically after 10 working days

· candidates can edit parts of their application after they submit them, these changes will be visible in Manage

6. Autumn Get Into Teaching events limited spaces available

The Get Into Teaching autumn event programme has been confirmed and was announced last month.

Exhibition spaces have been allocated to training providers, but we still have a limited number of spaces available at some events.

If you wish to apply for a space, please only apply for those in your region, as events are regionally focused.

A list of events and further information on the new programme is available on the attached booking form.

Please complete the booking form by 5pm on October 2: https://forms.gle/yQBJ8xbQcKMQLNgz5

7. Becoming a Teaching School Hub (TSH)

The department is inviting applications to become a Teaching School Hub from September 2024, once the current designation period ends. TSHs are school-led centres of excellence in professional development.

The application window opened on Monday 18 September and closes at 12.00pm on Friday 20 October.

Further information about TSHs and the application process is available on the Jaggaer platform. Questions can be submitted to the department on Jaggaer.

8. ENIC Statement of Comparability E-Statements

Candidates who contact the Get into Teaching line to request a free ENIC statement of comparability will now receive a digital e-statement, rather than a hard copy.

These e-statements will be issued as a secure PDF, with digital signature embedded. This can be verified to confirm it is genuine and helps to reduce the risk of fraud; if a candidate were to print the PDF, or screenshot it, the digital signature will not work and the statement cannot be validated.

The e-statements will have no expiry date and can be emailed or uploaded to application systems as often as required, for as long as required.
