Stormbreak Connect: A new primary ITE programme and resource in children’s mental health for pre-service teachers
15 May 2023
Stormbreak is a charity that supports children’s mental health, equipping them with sustainable skills and coping strategies to thrive during the complex demands of growth into adult life. The stormbreak approach supports trusted adults to help enable and empower children to understand how and when to regulate their feelings and emotions. To do this, movement is used as an integral pedagogical approach.
Stormbreak has worked in partnership with national educational providers including Coram Life Education, through the primary PSHE curriculum, and BBC Teach, through their recent campaign Moodboosters.
In collaboration with and developed by initial teacher education providers, teachers, and clinical mental health practitioners, the Stormbreak Connect programme supports pre-service teachers to develop an early understanding of mental health need in the primary school setting and guides them to implement practices throughout their school placement.
The programme is mapped to the Core Content Framework, is evidenced-based, evaluated and research-informed.
