UCET Travel Scholarship

The Universities Council for the Education of Teachers (UCET) offers scholarships per year of up £2,000 to allow new researchers at UCET member institutions at a relatively early stage in their careers to investigate aspects of teacher education or undertake educational researchin one or more overseas universities/HEIs. The activity should be part of a clear programme which the scholarship will assist in ways identified in the proposal. The scholarships are funded using funds generously donated by the former trustees of the Hewett Driver Trust.

Applicants should apply in writing for the scholarship, outlining the programme they propose to undertake and show how the scholarship would assist them in doing so. They will be expected to have made contact with the overseas institution(s) they wish to visit and have obtained statements of support from these prior to submitting the application. Accompanying the proposal will also be a statement of support from the applicant's Dean/Head of Department or equivalent manager.

All subsequent arrangements will be the responsibility of the scholarship holders and their host institution(s). On returning from their time abroad, scholarship holders will submit a brief reflective report of their activities for publication on the UCET website (see ucet.ac.uk/scholarships) and will lodge with UCET a copy of any publication resulting, together with appropriate acknowledgement. Recipients will also have the opportunity to present their findings at a workshop session at the annual UCET conference.

Scholarships will be paid to the successful applicant's institution. Half the scholarship will be paid immediately and the rest on presentation of an itemised invoice and receipts. The award will be repaid if the visit does not take place. Applicants will be eligible for the scholarship even if they attract other sources of funding.

Applications for the UCET scholarship, including a brief CV and the statements of support, should be made to James Noble Rogers by email (j.noble-rogers@ucet.ac.uk). Applicants may be asked to make a further submission.

Applications will be considered by a panel from the UCET Executive.

There is no formal deadline for the receipt of applications, which can be submitted at any time throughout the year.
