Closing the achievement gap and improving the life chances of all young people
Monday/Tuesday 23/24th March 2009, Ramada Hotel, Belfast
The aim of the symposium will be to consider across the jurisdictions the role participants and their organisations can play in helping to close the achievement gap and improve the life chances of all young people.
The structure will allow for substantial discussion in groups which will, as far as possible, represent the range of interests and backgrounds. This is intended to maximise the opportunity to gain a wide perspective on the topic. These discussions will follow presentations aimed to stimulate and focus the debate. In the final plenary session invited panel members will offer their perspectives on the theme and respond to key issues raised in the group discussions.
A programme indicating the areas to be covered by the speakers will be released shortly.
The outcome will be a published account of the symposium in the form of a UCET Occasional Paper. The aim will be to arrive at a small number of specific conclusions capable of influencing future developments.
