Policy & Liaison Officer: Dr Jacquie Nunn
Jacquie Nunn trained as a secondary teacher and taught English in Inner London schools. She then moved into teacher education taking on a number of roles in succession at Roehampton University. She was a subject leader for the Secondary English PGCE course and subsequently PGCE Programme Leader. She was a member of the strategic management group of SWELTEC, the consortium of four HEIs providing initial teacher education in south west London, became Quality and Standards Adviser to the Faculty of Education and following reorganisation she was appointed the university’s first Head of School of Initial Teacher Education.
In September 2002 she joined the Teacher Training Agency as Head of Improvement in the newly formed ITT Support Group. As Director Improvement and Training in the Training and Development Agency for Schools Jacquie had the strategic responsibility for the programme of quality improvement of initial teacher training in England. She played a lead role in the review of the standards for QTS introduced in 2007 and the process of the review was the subject of her practitioner doctorate. She was responsible for advising Ministers and DfE officials on initial teacher education, as well as working with a wide range of stakeholders, including government agencies and other public sector bodies on key aspects of the improvement strategy.
Jacquie has represented the UK on the EU working group on developing the framework of teacher competences, has undertaken consultancies for the British Council and the University of the West Indies in the Caribbean and advised the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia on the outcome standards for graduate programmes of teacher education. She has been involved in the work of UCET since 1996, both as a committee member in her time in HEI and in her role at the TDA, seeking to ensure that the high quality of HEI-led ITE and the capacity of the sector to innovate have been recognised.
